Property Taxes in Tampa…Tampa Real Estate Market Update

THE LATEST NEWS ON THE TAMPA REAL ESTATE MARKET, BUYING A HOME IN TAMPA, AND REAL ESTATE ISSUES AROUND THE WORLD, EVERY DAY, ON THE REAL ESTATE SIZZLE.

When someone is moving to Tampa, and they are looking at MLS listings online, they will see a huge difference in property tax bills on several different homes, in the same price range. It IS confusing!

I think there should be a disclaimer in every MLS listing, Property Taxes Are Reassessed After A Change in Ownership That would be the easiest thing for all homebuyers to understand. Since current appraised value, and tax bill, on the home, are based on the current owners purchase price, plus an annual increase of no more than 3%, they have absolutely NO RELEVANCE to the future tax bill. The current tax system has been hotly debated and is up for revision, but for right now, buyers need to understand the current tax bill will not be their tax bill.

You can estimate future taxes on any property at the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser website.
