What’s Happening in Tampa This Week? Tampa Real Estate News and More!

Filed under: Best Areas to Live in Tampa, Downtown Tampa Events, Fun and Frolic, Tampa Real Estate, Things to do in Tampa, Ventana Tampa

Every Monday morning I get a “news blast” from the Tampa Downtown Partnership about the current week’s events, meetings and fun things to do in Tampa.  They do a great job promoting Tampa’s downtown, so I have decided to include their events on The Tampa Real Estate Sizzle every week, because I write about “living” in Tampa, not just “moving” to Tampa.

This week, there are restaurant tours and dragon races!  Check out Tampa’s Downtown events for this week!

School is out in The Tampa Real Estate Market…Where are the Best Vacations for Kids?

Filed under: Buying a House in Tampa, Fun and Frolic, Relocation, Schools in Tampa, Tampa Neighborhoods, Tampa Real Estate Agent, Tampa Real Estate Market, Tampa Schools, Travel

The latest news on the Tampa Real Estate Market, Moving to Tampa, Tampa Neighborhoods and Tampa Schools, every day, on The Real Estate Sizzle.

School is out in Hillsborough County and summer is well underway. Students will return to the Classroom on August 24. Florida schools have an earlier summer than the rest of the country, which can make vacation planning a challenge. If you want your child to have other children to play with on vacation, you should plan a vacation sometime in late June to early August, when the rest of the country is also out for the summer , or stay in Florida and enjoy some of our fabulous family-oriented resorts. Conversely, if you are heading to Europe, go in Early June and avoid the summer crowds and the heat, as many shops, restaurants and smaller hotels do not have Air conditioning and all of Europe seems to be on holiday in August.

These are some of my favorite family vacation spots. C_bCape Cod, Massachusetts .There is something for everyone on the Cape from Beaches to Bumper Cars. You trip is not complete without a meal at the Clam Box! Stay at the Chatham Bars Inn for a little pampering right on the ocean, New England-style.

Sanibel and Captiva, Florida Shelling is the favorite pastime on the islands off the coast near Fort Myers. The islands are perfect for long bike rides and the living is sweet at South Seas Plantation. Its laid back Florida with fun dining at the Bubble Room and the Mucky Duck.

Cruises Ru_insCruises are family friendly with plenty of activities for kids and their parents. The trips to the Caribbean exploring Mayan ruins and local treasures are loads of fun. The ship has activities from dawn to the wee hours…If anyone is bored, it’s not because there is “nothing to do!” From Pool games to limbo dancing and blackjack tables to feasting on the “Midnight Buffet”…who could complain? You can leave from the Port of Tampa!

Charleston, South Carolina. Ghost walks, low-country cooking and plenty of old-fashioned Southern Charm abound in this great waterside city! Wander through the old cemetery and take a horse-drawn carriage ride. This is my favorite “Southern” City! Be sure to feast on some low country cooking shrimp and grits!

Vermont You can explore the Green Mountains, go boating on Lake Champlain and enjoy a tour, and a taste, at Ben and Jerrys ice cream factory! Head to a local Maple farm for some maple syrup, or the Cabot cheese factory for a little Vermont cheddar. Smugglers Notch is a family-oriented resort in the heart of it all.

Paris Ei_ffelThe ultimate destination, in spite of the cost of the Euro, especially for teenagers. I took my son several years ago, as a special reward for several years of “perfect” grades!  You can spend an entire day in the Louvre, ride to the top of the eiffel tower and seek out the perfect skateboard in a local skate shop! Nibble on crepes from street vendors and enjoy french pastries from the local patisserie. Stop in at Angelina, for the best hot chocolate in Paris.

Enjoy Some of Tampa’s “Indoor” Activities to Escape the Summer Heat…Tampa Real Estate News and More!

Filed under: Best Places in Tampa, Fun and Frolic, Tampa Real Estate Agent, Tampa Real Estate Market, Things to do in Tampa

The Latest News on Living in Tampa, the Tampa Real Estate Market and Where to Live Outside of the U.S., every day, on The Real Estate Sizzle…

The daytime weather in Tampa can only be described in one of two ways, either “sweltering”, or “raining”! While we have “near perfect” weather, for most of the year, the summer months are very humid, so looking for some “indoor” fun is very appealing.

The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center always has a great line-up of plays and events, including the popular “Broadway Series”.

This week, at the Shimberg Playhouse, “Private Lives” opens for a two-week run. You can buy tickets online, and check out future events, as well.

I’ll keep you posted on other ways to “stay cool” in the heat of the summer!

Gasparilla PirateFest This Weekend!…Tampa Real Estate News and More…

Filed under: Fun and Frolic, South Tampa

Tampahomesgasparilla

You won’t likely be buying a house in South Tampa this Saturday, as Bayshore Boulevard and Downtown Tampa are closed to traffic, for the annual Gasparilla Piratefest…a Tampa tradition since 1904, and most of the streets close to the parade route are jammed with crowds.

The Pirates invade the city by flotilla, where the mayor happily hands over the keys! The parade route begins on Bayshore Boulevard and heads into downtown.  Hundreds of thousands of parade-goers will clamor for the “best” beads, thrown by the many Pirates, and other Krewes.  It’s a day-long party…so get there early, and watch for the “no parking” signs.

I live close to the parade route, so I’ll be taking a  break myself, and hosting a little Gasparilla Party on my porch!

Enjoy the day…

It’s Back to School Today in Tampa! Moms…Watch those Speed Limits!

Filed under: Fun and Frolic, Real Estate News

SpeedingBack to that early morning routine today, as the children head back to schoola jubilant day for Mothers everywhere! As I drove my own children to school today, they reminded me of the year I was just a little too happy about that first day of school!

I had loaded the three, freshly-uniformed, towheads into the Volvo, cranked up the music, and was happily humming along as I drove across the peninsula to school. The sounds of a siren soon eclipsed that of Sheryl Crow, as the cruiser turned on its lights and motioned for me to pull over. Volvos cant speed I thought to myself, as the kids broke into a chorus of Mommys getting a ticket .

I rolled down my window, and, the very handsome, young officer, peeked into the car at my now silent brood. I smiled sweetly, and said, Its the first day of school and Im just a little too happy, I guess He smirked”I have a policy against ticketing mothers with their children in the car, but you were doing 50 mph in a 35 mph zone, so please slow it down YessirI smirked right back at him! Thank youThat is a nice policy , I replied. PhewNo need to turn on the tears!

The kids starting singing something about a ticket againbut I turned up Sheryl Crows, All I Want to Do and dropped them off in the carpool lane as I sang Have a wonderful daylove you see you later aah, the memories!

This mornings ride was far less dramatic, but infinitely more enjoyable , since the Volvo has been replaced by a zippy, little convertible. It was a picturesque morning for a top down drive, andthankfully, nary a cruiser in sight!

Happy Back To School to Mothers everywhere! Its a crank up the music kind of day!

Moving to Tampa? Where to Meet Other “Singles” in the Tampa Bay Area…

Filed under: "Where to Find", Fun and Frolic, How to, Single Parent News, Tampa

My clients often call me to ask Where can I find???anything from bakeries to dog sitters to painters, and more. So, when I received an email from a reader who has just moved to Tampa, asking about how to meet nice people in town, aside from the bar scene , I thought it would be a great topic for a series.

Here is the first article in my How to ‘Find Anything’ in Tampa.. series.

There are a number of singles groups in the area that hold monthly Datingmeetings and have various activities including trips, boating, cruises, gourmet dinners, and many other activities.

Tampa Bay Entertainment has compiled an extensive list of some of the Singles Groups in the Tampa Bay Area.

One of the largest groups in the area is the Westchase Singles Club. They meet monthly in different locations and are planning a cruise for the Labor Day Weekend.

For Single Parents who enjoy traveling, Single Parent Travel organizes a number of trips each year, both in the U.S. and abroad, for single parents traveling with their children.

If you know of another group that should be included in this article, please contact me. Or, if you have a suggestion for another topic on The Real Estate Sizzle, leave a comment below!
